Glory Secure Coyne
By: Ben | July 9th, 2009
Fantastic news today with The World Game reporting Socceroo Chris Coyne will join Perth Glory.
In an exclusive interview with TWG, the Colchester United defender revealed all the formalities were almost sorted out and he would soon be joining the Glory ranks.
“I’d like to come back while I’m still at the top of my game and the prospect of playing for Perth really appeals to me,” Coyne said.
“It’s been a long process sorting things out, with interest from England and also Asia and also trying to negotiate a release from Colchester but it’s almost settled.”
Coyne added, “The club looks like it’s geared for success. They haven’t done well in recent times but they are determined to change that with the signings they have made. From what I can see they look to be building a solid base for the future.”
The Australian international had previously made it clear, he wasn’t sure about his national team future should he return home to the A-League.
“It’s something you have to think about but with others (Jason Culina, Mile Sterjovski, Jacob Burns & Craig Moore) coming back now to lead the way, it has changed my mindset a little.
“This year will be all about putting myself in the shop window for the World Cup.
“I want to make sure I am there or thereabouts and it’s crucial I’m playing football week-in week-out (a privilege not guaranteed him at Colchester).”
And with the problematic two-month gap between the A-League finals and the World Cup, Coyne admitted he’d be seeking a suitable loan deal.
“The most important thing about coming home for any player is make sure you are playing until May and that would mean going out on loan somewhere.
“There will be a few of the boys looking to do that so that they put themselves in with the best chance of World Cup selection.”
