Glory Slip To 1-0 GCU Defeat
By: Ben | July 25th, 2009An understrength Perth Glory has gone down 1-0 to Gold Coast United in their pre-season friendly down in Bunbury today.
Joel Porter scored the only goal of the game in the first-half, but Glory probably deserved better with plenty of chances going to waste.
Glory were without Eugene Dadi (virus), Jamie Harnwell (hamstring), Andy Todd (back), Jacob Burns (hamstring) and Wayne Shroj (hamstring). Serbian Branko Jelic had a good run but couldn’t score.
Coach Dave Mitchell said after the game, “Branko is getting better and better as his fitness increases, he has great touch and made some telling passes today, he has given us a glimpse of what he’ll be able to offer the team going forward.”
Mitchell added, “It was a tough old game. I’m not too disappointed in the result as we were able to try a few things and get some more cohesion amongst the players which is our primary concern before the season starts.
“I was happy with what we got out of the game in terms of preparation for the season especially with the number of players we had missing.”
