Introductions & Pre-Season

By: Ben | July 1st, 2009

Gday offsiders, I’m the new scribe in charge of Perth Glory’s Offside blog so here’s an informal ‘Hello’. Anyway, my name’s Ben, I’m a West Aussie lad, currently earning a buck in Germany as a freelance football journalist. I do plenty of work for the Australian 442, The Roar, insidefutbol and other blogs & projects etc. Anyway, Perth Glory is my club so I guess the Offside blog is my chance to have an enjoyable look at the team and share a bit of the news I receive with you.

First off, there’s been alot of changes at Gloryland in the off-season with a new logo, a new kit, and some new players including high-profile Socceroos pair Mile Sterjovski and Jacob Burns, along with former Blackburn captain Andy Todd and Serbian hitman Branko Jelic. All exciting, and positive, changes for the club.

Also looking ahead, Glory are preparing for a pair of high-profile pre-season friendlies next week with matches against EPL clubs Wolverhampton (July 10) and Fulham (July 15). Problem is Glory owner Tony Sage revealed during the week, ticket-sales are below expectations.

“I am staggered actually- I thought that the games would have been sold out within a week or two,” Sage said. “It’s just disappointing to me that we haven’t even gone half-way to selling out.”

On the field there’s also a few concerns with injuries getting a grip on plenty of members of the Glory squad, including a long list of the youngsters including Anthony Skorich.

But high-profile Dutch import Victor Sikora is battling to be fit for the EPL friendlies, although Glory fitness & conditioning coach Peter Cklamovski thinks he’s a show for at least a brief run in the games.

“We’re hoping we have a few back for Wolves and Fulham,” Cklamovski said. “Vic, I think will get some minutes in that game but it just depends on the next two or three weeks, how the others progress.”

Anyway, if you’re in Perth grab yourself a ticket or two and support the lads. Speak again soon.

Welcome from Football Manager – Lower League Management. Feel free to give me a hoy.

I’m a Perth boy too, have myself 4 tickets (girlfriend, cousin, girlfriend’s brother, myself) for the Wolves game. Hello to Toby for the best run blog on TheOffside http://wolves.theoffside.com/.

I’m so excited about Glory this season (I have been a season ticket holder in the past but didn’t renew last year as I was in Europe 1/2 the time). This year it is not out of ‘feeling guilty not to’ but out of genuine anticipation of finals at a minimum.

For other good glory blogs check out au.fourfourtwo.com under A League blogs.

If you want guest contributor (who goes to games) from time to time let me know.

Hi. Wolves fan here, anticipating a good experience for my home town team. I am trying to discover kick-off time and wonder if the game is to be broadcast (tv/radio) and if it might be accessible on the net?

In terms of TV/radio, im not sure, but i wouldnt be confident.

I can tell you, the glory/wolves game kicks off on 10/7 at 7.30pm local time, so thats 12.30pm UK time. and the Nth Qld/Wolves game on 15/7 kicks off at 5.15pm perth time, so 10.15am UK time.

    hope that helps
